About Walthamstow
The largest district within the London Borough of Waltham Forest is Walthamstow. It is bounded by Epping Forest, Walthamstow Reservoirs, Lea Valley and the North Circular Road. The area used to be part of the county of Essex and in 1965 it officially became part of the British capital.
With the arrival of the railways and the following suburbanisation at the end of 19th, Walthamstow started developing itself, many buildings sprang up and the population grew. The 1990s’ boy band East 17 was from this area whose name came from the district’s postal code E17. Their debut album was even called Walthamstow. There is another band which found its origins in this area- The Rifles.
